Utility “Smart” Meters – electric, gas, and water – are expensive, unnecessary, and plagued with problems including fires and explosions, measurement errors (see 123), and MUCH MORE.

Research has determined that they DO NOT SAVE meaningful amounts of energy.  Of course American utility companies don’t want to talk about any of this.  They’ve received BILLIONS in federal stimulus to install “Smart” Grids and “Meters” and these meters are extremely profitable.

“Smart” Meters are 2-way transmitting which allows utilities to collect minute-by-minute customer usage data which they can analyze in order to market more products and services to customers as well as sell to 3rd parties (see 12).  The 2-way transmitting feature also allows utilities to remotely turn off services and ration customer usage.

Approximately 57% of Americans already have “Smart” Meters and utilities plan to install more.  A group of Maine residents has not given up the fight to keep their traditional analog meters.

Maine Utilities New Smart Meter Scam

Simmering in the background with little notice since early 2019, Central Maine Power Company’s (CMP’s) proposal to get rid of analog electric utility meters opened for public comment at the Maine Public Utilities Commission (MPUC). The comment period ends Monday the 22nd. (Docket 2019-00044)

In 2011 the MPUC ordered CMP to provide two “opt out” alternatives for customers who didn’t want the controversial smart meters, an electromechanical (analog) meter, and a “radio off” smart meter. CMP was ordered to retain enough analog meters for the opt out customers. At that time they had 600,000 analog meters.

CMP now claims they are out of analog meters. They are proposing to only offer “solid state” meters. Solid state meters are in fact smart meters. “CMP appears to have violated their requirement to keep enough electromechanical meters for opt out customers”, said Ed Friedman, spokesperson for the Maine Coalition to Stop Smart Meters. “If they truly “misplaced” or scrapped the approximately 594,500 meters not being used by current opt out customers, they need to be held accountable.” he added.

Former State Representative Andrea Boland pointed out CMP’s history of vacant pretenses of expertise and failures. “Now”, she said, “they set out to again dissemble and deceive in an attempt to convince the MPUC that smart meters are not smart meters and the order permitting opt-outs by customers (even at a hefty monthly penalty) is not a valid order.”

Maine Coalition to Stop Smart Meters wants to save the analogs because smart meters, including “radio off” smart meters, create dirty electricity which is a heath hazard.

Elisa Boxer, one of the original complainants to the MPUC in 2011 said: “We presented evidence from engineers and other experts that digital solid-state meters were not an acceptable alternative to analogs for several reasons, including the emission of transients onto the home wiring. Voltage transients, otherwise known as one type of “dirty electricity,” are spikes of electromagnetic interference (EMI) that travel along the wiring in the walls and have been implicated in cancer cases worldwide.” (see Woodward & Harding oscilloscope comparisons)

Woodward & Harding-Power Quality Comparison: Smart Meter v Analog

These emissions from home wiring may be one reason why smart meters have had such devastating health effects. Dr. Beatrice Golumb MD PhD, Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego said:  “Our survey study shows this smart meter induced electrical sensitivity often led to catastrophic impacts in the lives of those affected”. She requested the PUC “please ensure purely analog electromechanical meters remain available for those who wish them”, citing this as an issue of importance for the health of vulnerable members of the public.

Golumb, 2020, EMF Medical Conference 2021

Dr. Albert Manville, retired wildlife biologist specializing in bird impacts from towers, powerlines and wireless radiation wrote: “concerns with smart meters (with or without transmitters) include radiation sensitivity, cancers and other health problems caused by the radiation frequencies, issues with dirty electricity, high maintenance costs, privacy and hacking concerns, fire dangers, and unfair opt-out fees we pay each month (at best, our meter is read every other month but we’re billed each month – double dipping).”

Summary of Symptoms after Exposure to Wireless Utility Meters

Thanks to: Maine Coalition to Stop Smart Meters.

It’s been well documented that “Smart” Meters 2-way transmitting feature creates high levels of harmful electromagnetic radiation (see 123).  There have been numerous reports worldwide about health issues in people and animals after “Smart” Meters have been installed (see 12345678910).  Some utilities now allow customers to “opt out” because of the complaints and lawsuits.

“Smart” Meters have also been associated with grave cybersecurity risks.  Before Trump left office, additional federal legislation was passed to address their vulnerability.  Many legislators have taken action against “Smart” Meters for various reasons (see 123).  More awful details have been exposed in free online documentary, Take Back Your Power.  Opposition to these meters is worldwide.

Activist Post reports regularly about “Smart” Meters and other unsafe technology.  For more information, visit our archives and the following websites:

Researchers said that increased screen time has ‘multiple risks’ for child wellbeing.

LETTING TODDLERS PLAY frequently on tablets, phones and game consoles could be putting them at a higher risk of emotional and behavioural problems when they start school, a new study suggests.

Pre-schoolers who extensively use electronic media are more likely to have hyperactivity issues, a short attention span, poor concentration and peer relationship issues when they turn five compared to their peers, academics found.

Researchers, from the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, said that increased screen time has “multiple risks” for child wellbeing.

A new study, published in the journal BMJ Open, examined data on around 700 Finnish children.

Parents reported how much time their child spent using electronic media at 18 months and five years of age.

They found that 95% of pre-school children spent more than an hour on a screen every day.

The World Health Organisation says that screen time is not recommended for children under two.

Those aged two to four should not engage in more than an hour of screen time each day, and “less is better”, the guidance states.

The Finnish study found that the average screen time of a five-year-old was 114 minutes a day.

And for 18-month-olds it was an average of 32 minutes.

The authors found that high levels of screen among five-year-olds was linked to a risk of “multiple psychosocial problems”, including attention and concentration difficulties, hyperactivity and impulsivity, emotional internalising and externalising symptoms, and conduct problems.

But when they delved into the information further they found that lots of TV time at five years had an increased risk of several psychosocial problems.#OPEN JOURNALISM No news is bad news Support The Journal

But they said that playing video games had fewer associations but it was linked to hyperactivity.

Meanwhile, they found that 18-month-olds who had higher than recommended screen time were more likely to have “peer problems” later on.

But they said that they did not find a high usage level of electronic devices at 18 months of age to be associated with other problems in psychosocial well-being later on.

The authors conclude: “As our results point out, increased screen time has multiple risks for children’s psychosocial well-being.

“These risk factors might accumulate in the long term and cause problems in children’s socio-emotional development later on.

“One possible mechanism accounting for the result might be that the time children spend on e-media reduces the time spent on constructive activities such as interactions with family members, reading and playing.”

This need naturally creates a growing dependence on cell phones, which leads to feelings of stress and anxiety – ‘someone might write something on social media, and I’ll miss it and not be in the loop.’”Other reports confirm that a “a mental health pandemic of depression, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress and even suicide” are among side effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Falling sperm counts and changes to sexual development are “threatening human survival” and leading to a fertility crisis, a leading epidemiologist has warned.

Writing in a new book, Shanna Swan, an environmental and reproductive epidemiologist at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, warns that the impending fertility crisis poses a global threat comparable to that of the climate crisis.

“The current state of reproductive affairs can’t continue much longer without threatening human survival,” she writes in Count Down.

It comes after a study she co-authored in 2017 found that sperm counts in the west had plummeted by 59% between 1973 and 2011, making headlines globally.

Now, Swan says, following current projections, sperm counts are set to reach zero in 2045. “That’s a little concerning, to say the least,” she told Axios.

In the book, Swan and co-author Stacey Colino explore how modern life is threatening sperm counts, changing male and female reproductive development and endangering human life.

It points to lifestyle and chemical exposures that are changing and threatening human sexual development and fertility. Such is the gravity of the threats they pose, she argues, that humans could become an endangered species.

“Of five possible criteria for what makes a species endangered,” Swan writes, “only one needs to be met; the current state of affairs for humans meets at least three.”

Swan offers advice on how to protect themselves from damaging chemicals and urges people to “do what we can to safeguard our fertility, the fate of mankind, and the planet”.

Between 1964 and 2018 the global fertility rate fell from 5.06 births per woman to 2.4. Now approximately half the world’s countries have fertility rates below 2.1, the population replacement level.

While contraception, cultural shifts and the cost of having children are likely to be contributing factors, Swan warns of indicators that suggest there are also biological reasons – including increasing miscarriage rates, more genital abnormalities among boys and earlier puberty for girls.

Swan blames “everywhere chemicals”, found in plastics, cosmetics and pesticides, that affect endocrines such as phthalates and bisphenol-A.

“Chemicals in our environment and unhealthy lifestyle practices in our modern world are disrupting our hormonal balance, causing various degrees of reproductive havoc,” she writes.

She also said factors such as tobacco smoking, marijuana and growing obesity play a role.

EHS: California Appellate Court holds that Wi-Fi sickness is a disability

EHS: California Appellate Court holds that Wi-Fi sickness is a disability

Posted on

…updated on February 26, 2021…

The case of EHS (Wi-Fi sickness) in California is of importance and of interest to a broader readership. It is a very good news for all EHS persons but… will be seen what will happen next...I am re-posting text from the US website of LEXOLOGY.

The text, quoted below, has first appeared in this link of LEXOLOGY

USA February 23, 2021

Is Wi-Fi sickness a disability? The California Court of Appeal just said it is in Brown v. Los Angeles Unified School District (2d Dist., Div. Eight), Case No. B294240. In a case that tests the limits of California’s liberal pleading standard, the appellate court green-lighted a claim of a woman who asserted a disability of “electromagnetic hypersensitivity,” or, as the concurring justice put it, “Wi-Fi sickness.”

The trial court had sustained a demurrer, granting judgment for the employer, a school district. The appellate court revived the plaintiff’s claim for failure to provide a reasonable accommodation.

The court acknowledged that it is likely the first to recognize Wi-Fi sickness as a disability under laws against discrimination. In fact, the court discussed contrary federal court authority, distinguishing those cases by concluding that the definition of “disability” in California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act is broader than in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Apart from the holding that Wi-Fi sickness is a disability under FEHA, California employers should take note of the facts alleged about the failure to provide a reasonable accommodation.

After the school district installed a new Wi-Fi system, the plaintiff teacher complained of headaches and other symptoms caused by exposure to the electromagnetic waves. The school district initially tried to accommodate the teacher by turning off the Wi-Fi in her classroom and an adjacent one. The teacher said that her symptoms persisted and asked for additional accommodations. By that point, the school district’s consultant had reported that the Wi-Fi and radio frequencies at the school “evidenced a safe and non-hazardous working environment.” Based on that report, the school district did not grant any further accommodation, and the teacher sued.

In his concurring opinion, Justice Wiley expressed reluctance “about giving any sort of green light to this unprecedented and unorthodox disability claim.” But that’s exactly what the court did.

The decision serves as a reminder of just how easy it is to survive a pleading challenge in California.

PRESS CONFERENCE: Stopping OTARD-No 5G Antennas on Homes!

Hi All,On March 18, Children’s Health Defense (CHD) filed a motion for an emergency injunction with the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, asking the Court to stay the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Over-the-Air Reception Devices” (OTARD) Rule Amendment, before it  goes into effect on 3/29/21. The motion is part of CHD’s case that was filed on 2/26/21, challenging the rule amendment. This motion for an injunction will have major implications for our movement. Read The Defender’s Article:
CHD Files Emergency Injunction to Stop Rule Allowing 5G Antennas on Homes The OTARD rule amendment allows the installation of voice/data/video antennas, including 5G antennas, on homes, without requiring a permit or giving notice to neighbors, and it preempts all state and municipal laws. Most disturbingly, the rule also  preempts disability civil rights laws that protect the disabled and their rights for accommodation. The adults and children who have become sick or whose condition is aggravated by exposure to wireless radiation will not be able to get accommodation, even in their homes. If the OTARD rule goes into effect, nowhere will be safe, not even rural areas, and there will be no refuge. This rule is egregious and the most aggressive attack by the FCC on our rights, for it leaves us none. Itallows the FCC to prevent any action based on health effects, removes substantive and procedural due process rights and leaves us with no recourse. For those of us who have become sick, adults and children alike, this rule literally takes away our right to exist. Anywhere.
The Emergency Motion Fling this motion for an injunction is a risky move on our part.  However, considering the consequences, not filing this motion would have been a greater risk. To get an injunction we are required to demonstrate: (a) likelihood of success on the merits in the case (b)the petitioners are likely to suffer irreparable harm (c) the balance of interests favors an injunction; and (d) a stay is in the public interest. The chances of getting an injunction are always slim, however we think we have a relatively strong case, especially because of the due process violations.

The motion confronts the court with the human evidence of harm. The court will have to decide whether to immediately protect the adults and children who have been injured. If the court issues a nationwide injunction, it will be an acknowledgment of the sickness caused by wireless radiation and it will be a turning point for our movement. However, if the court chooses to look the other way, it will be a seal of approval for the FCC’s actions. There will be no recourse.

To support our motion, we filed 11 affidavits. The affidavits are the most crucial element of the emergency motion. They must show that if the rule should go into effect, concrete and irreparable harm will result. Seven affidavits are of families who have been injured severely and will suffer devastating impact if the OTARD amendment takes effect. I filed an affidavit on behalf of CHD. Three of the affidavits are expert opinions from Prof. Beatrice Golomb MD PhDProf. Riina Bray MD and Dr. Toril Jelter MD. I recommend reading their affidavits. Wilberforce’s words perfectly describe the message of these affidavits to the court: “You may be able to look the other way, but you will never be able to say you didn’t know.” A Personal Note
This case is personal for me. Since I developed Radiation Sickness in 2009, my life has stopped making sense. Very few people know the extent of the hardships I have endured. I have been unemotional about it. Just practical. My focus on the work enabled me to ignore my personal reality. As long as I have had a place with a wired ethernet connection so I can work and low enough radiation that my brain will function, I didn’t care about the rest. I am realizing though, that the reason I have been so focused on this work, is because when I became sick, seeing the denial and the lies of the obvious harm and the cruel treatment of people who are living in inhumane conditions, the world also stopped making sense to me. I am realizing that my work in the past 9 years has been my need to make sense of the world again. Please Donate to Support This CaseThe Court Process
Prior to filing a motion with the Court and two days after we filed the case, on 3/1/21 CHD filed an administrative motion with the FCC. The Wireless Internet Service Providers Association, which lobbied for the rule amendment, opposed the motion. We decided not to advertise the filing. The FCC hasn’t ruled on the Motion. Therefore, we filed this motion for an emergency injunction with the court.

This motion will likely be decided within the next ten days. The court ordered the FCC to file its response by 3/23/21. CHD will have 24 hours to file a reply to the FCC. A decision is expected before 3/29/21, when the rule is supposed to go into effect. The court appointed a three-judge panel to decide on the motion. One of the judges on the panel, Judge Wilkins, is also one of the judges in our first case against the FCC, the case that challenges the FCC’s decision not to review its health guidelines. Press Conference:
On Monday, 3/22/21 1 PM PDT / 4 PM EDT, CHD will hold a press conference with CHD’s Chairman Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Dafna Tachover, and our lead and superb attorney, Scott McCullough. Register for the Press ConferenceA Request
People must become aware of this draconian rule. Because of the efforts to censor CHD, we would appreciate your support by forwarding this message and sharing the information about OTARD and the press conference with your lists and on social media: The Defender Article: CHD Files Emergency Injunction to Stop Rule Allowing 5G Antennas on Homes
CHD’s Page About OTARD and the Injunction
CHD’s Press ReleaseImage to share on social media:
I pray that the court will have the courage to do that which must be done and that the world will make sense again.
