In the past, on several occasions, I wrote about the amateurish conduct of STUK experts, those responsible for protecting Finns from the dangers of radiation, any radiation. Links to these posts are here:

Recently, was again revealed how amateurish the STUK experts are.

Last week, on March 3rd – 4th, 2016, STUK measured exceptionally high levels of cesium-137 in air in Helsinki. Levels were significantly higher than normal, though, relatively safe for the health of general population. On March 7th, 2016, STUK issued press release informing about this exceptional measurement. To make the story short, the source of the cesium-137 was found to be the company handling demolition of the old radiation equipment, business off-shot from STUK, Suomen Nukliditekniikka Oy, located in the same premises as STUK.

So far so good. Tiny amount of cesium-137 was detected showing that the measuring equipment is sensitive and in working order. The amount of cesium-137 detected was not harmful for health.

But there is a big problem, showing lack of professionalism on behalf of STUK.

How it is possible that nobody predicted, or nobody cared enough, to consider that locating very sensitive measuring equipment in the same premises as the company handling demolition of the old radiation-emitting equipment, may compromise measurements of airborne radiation.

The consequences of such unprofessional shortsightedness were expensive (how much?) as some 20 persons for several days were looking for the radiation source and who are still involved in clean-up of the contaminated parts of STUK building. This “measurement mess” was easily avoidable by using a simple logic and a precaution – do not locate sensitive measuring equipment in the same premises where the old radiation equipment is being demolished and may accidentally contaminate the building, causing false alarm for the whole of Finland.

However, there is more. Namely, how reliable is the radiation protection of Finns by experts of STUK, making such amateurish mistakes… and… the same persons, responsible for the amateurish conduct, repeat and repeat again… And this is not the first time. The contamination of STUK premises happened already earlier, with plutonium…

From the past experiences with STUK managerial culture, coming from my 22 years of work there, most likely nobody outside of STUK will care and the whole responsibility for such amateurish conduct will be brushed under the rug…

Outside Truth or Consequences New Mexico in the sparsely populated, middle-of-nowhere area where Spaceport America is located, Google is planning to build a huge experimental radio transmitter, the purpose of which is apparently secret.

Much of Google’s application with the FCC is redacted.

Here’s a summary of what can be gleaned, according to Popular Mechanics:

It will work in ranges typically utilized for communications devices (the 2.5 GhZ and 5.8 GhZ band), but includes higher millimeter bands.

As Benchoff points out, there’s a transmitter in the 70-80 GHz band. That band isn’t regulated much by the FCC, and is typically used for high-bandwidth communications, and frequencies just under that range (60 GHz) may indeed be utilized for high-bandwidth wireless routers. But whereas those devices will use power in the watts, Google wants a 96.4 kilowatt transmitter. AM radio stations top out at 50 KWs, which can reach at least 38 states. But whereas that’s omnidirectional, Google wants something that also concentrates on very narrow widths.

Considering the company’s cozy relationship to government spy agencies and the Bilderberg Group, it’s infatuation with AI and the singularity ala its Director of Engineering and Futurist Ray Kurzweil, and the patenting of gadgets such as this creepy child’s toy that spies on anyone who comes near it, there’s every reason to question what Google is really up to here.

As a reader pointed out, the frequency would not give the coverage area of AM radio as indicated below, but would go about 230 miles if pointed very precisely and used for high-volume wireless communication, lending credence to the idea that it’s a wifi system.

investigating a range of health hazards being found in modern IT office-places

The Swedish No-Risk project (new link on my home page)

During the mid 1990s while I was doing research for the Australian Democrats Senator Robert Bell I was communicating with researchers from Swedish Union of Clerical and Technical Employees in Industry (SiF). They were investigating a range of health hazards being found in modern IT office-places and were looking for international partnerships with other trade unions who were interested in this issue. Fortunately they sent me a number of English-language SiF publications on their “No-Risk in the IT environment” project which are now available on my website.


During the 1990’s the Swedish Union of Clerical and Technical Employees in Industry (SiF) instigated research into reports of electro-magnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) in the modern information technology (IT) workplace with a possible link with chemical emissions from new electronic equipment. The research team at SiF were concerned that the modern IT workplace may be creating new and serious risks to health, as a result SiF initiated the No-Risk project which aimed at addressing all possible health hazards in the modern office-place. In 1999 SiF initiated the “Healthy Office project” in partnership with the Luleå University of Technology (LTU).

The Healthy Office project aimed at implementing the points raised in the SiF “No Risk” publications. However due to corporate (Ericsson) and government concerns that the SiF No-Risk and the Healthy Office projects were a threat to the introduction of new technology (mainly Ericsson’s new office place DECT cordless phones), the projects were totally closed down with people sacked and all publications withdrawn from circulation and destroyed. For all intents and purposes the SiF No Risk /Healthy Office projects were as if they never happened – replaced a new trade union focus on “psycho-social” issues. Meaning: If you get sick in the workplace and its not an obvious illness such as the flu, you just might be suffering from a psychosomatic illness.

However, the SiF No-Risk / Healthy Office project pamphlets are now available on my website in honour of the brave women and men who worked to make the modern IT office a safer and healthy place to work in. It is important to note, however, that the health hazards identified by the SiF No Risk project in the 1990s are still problems that can be encountered in the modern IT office environment, not to mention the modern “Smart” home.
