LIPA installs smart meters across Fire Island post-Sandy, but few customers know about it

Is this the utilities idea of customer outreach? This is criminally insane behavior.  Every one has a right to know and a right to not accept the meter; that doesn’t mean you opt out of their plan when you never wanted to be part of it to begin with.  You have to do your own homework and vetting because you won’t get the truth from Agency officials or the utilities.  The utilities have been quoted in the media stating that a very small percentage opt out.  This is the very reason why they have skewed statistics. The average Joe on the street does not know anything about smart meters or how they really function….Sandaura
